Wireless infrastructure for the communities others overlooked
Millions of people in rural Ghana had poor connectivity and to some larger extent, no signal at all. The big telcos looked at these communities and moved on. Rainbow built there anyway.
The towers are a tenth of the cost of conventional towers with no grid power needed. Every tower creates a permanent customer base with zero competition. This is one of the only companies building where millions of people have no other option. There is a difference.
Why we invested
We have operated in Ghana's telecom sector for years. We understand the gap between urban connectivity and rural reality. When we met the Rainbow team, we saw a company with the right technology, the right leadership, and the right thesis for closing that gap.
Rainbow's model is capital-efficient. Their infrastructure costs a fraction of what traditional towers require, and their energy footprint is significantly lower. That means they can reach communities that no one else will serve, and do it profitably.
We invested because this is the kind of business we look for: a proven team, a clear commercial opportunity, and an outcome that changes lives at scale.
What connectivity unlocks
Healthcare
A sick child used to mean a long journey on bad roads. Now it means a video call with a doctor. Telemedicine, emergency coordination, real-time health data — none of it works without signal. Rainbow makes it work.
Education
A rural teacher used to be entirely on their own — no resources, no network, no link to anything beyond their classroom. Connectivity closes that gap. Digital platforms and online curricula become possible the moment a tower goes up nearby.
Commerce
A farmer who doesn't know today's market price will always sell at yesterday's disadvantage. Mobile money and real-time pricing turn isolated producers into informed participants in regional trade.
Financial Inclusion
No signal means no mobile money, no savings account, no credit, no insurance. The unbanked don't lack ambition — they lack access. A tower converts economic exclusion into participation.
Community Resilience
Rural migration is a rational response to a gap in opportunity. When the same information available in a city becomes available in your village, the calculus changes. People can build livelihoods where they are.
